Terms & Conditions: Please read the following before continuining to Online Registration at the bottom of the page.
Deadline:
The deadline for completed registration and full payment is Friday, February 25th before midnight. Late registrations will not be processed.
Acommodations:
Meals:All programs of Taller Portobelo Norte are housed at the Taller Portobelo facilities in Portobelo, Panama unless otherwise noted. The Taller Portobelo complex consists of three guest houses and a small gallery and workshop. All rooms are multi-occupancy.
Our goal is to create an environment of cultural immersion, not one of touristic voyerism.
To that end, the accommodations at Taller Portobelo are par to those enjoyed by the local inhabitants. The insects and amphibians of the surrounding rainforest often visit our small complex. The cool breezes of the Caribbean Sea and the supply of fans generally make air conditioning unnecessary. The warm temperatures of the land also make it unnecessary for hot water in the showers.
The Taller Portobelo Staff create two traditional Carribean meals per day usually consisting of rice, fish and vegetables. The third meal of the day is the responsibility of the participant. Their are grocery stores and affordable restaurants in town. Within reason, special meals can be fixed to accommodate dietary needs.
Language:
The language of Panama is Spanish. All tours will be provided in English and translators will be available as needed. Panamanians as a whole really admire someone, especially US Americans, who attempt to speak Spanish. Please learn some basic salutations and greetings. Good morning, good night, how are you, hello, good-bye etc. An attempt at the language will earn you many friends.Currency:
The US dollar is used as legal tender in the Republic of Panama. As a result, there is no need for cur- rency exchange. There are ATM machines in Panama City as well as in Sabanitas, which is a 45 minute bus ride from Portobelo.Passports & Visas or Tourist Cards:
United States citizens are required to have a valid passport and a visa or tourist card in order to enter the Republic of Panama. Tourist cards are available at the Delta check in counter on the day of departure for a cost of $5.00.
Disruptive Behavior
Taller Portobelo Norte reserves the right to dismiss any participant from the program whose behavior is considered disruptive to the operation of the program. Any participant that is dismissed will be taken directly to the Tocumen Airport in Panama City and returned to the United States on the next available flight at their own expense. All program fees will be forfeited.
Drugs
Taller Portobelo Norte strictly prohibits the purchase and use of illegal drugs. Participants found in violation of this policy will forfeit their payment and be sent back to the United States at their own expense. In addition, Taller Portobelo Norte is obligated by law to report the purchase or use of any illegal drug to the local authorities. The United States Embassy in Panama is also very strict about respecting Panamanian drug laws. Participants need to know that you do not have the same legal rights in Panama as you do in the United States.
